I’m going to make everything around me beautiful - that will be my life.
— Elsie de Wolfe

There’s no denying that a freshly designed space shifts our energy and boosts our mood! It can be the difference between starting the day off with a positive vibe and feeling suffocated all day. If you’re feeling stuck, (especially as we’ve been spending more time in our homes this past year) consider refreshing your space

A refresh doesn’t need to be a full scale remodel or redesign. Follow these three easy steps to recreate your space in a super quick and affordable way.

Declutter

Our stuff takes up more than physical space. It creates visual weight which can stick in our minds and wind up weighing us down mentally and emotionally. Knowing you have a pile of papers waiting for you to sift through can leave stress pressing on your mind for weeks! Now is the time to sort through your piles of paper and old clothes or pictures and decide what you need and what you don’t. But don’t stop there! If you decide you can’t live without something, make sure to find it a home so it isn’t just taking up space.

Paint

Never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of paint! If you’ve felt smothered by your space lately, consider lightening your wall color. Lighter colors notoriously make spaces feel larger than they really are, creating the illusion of more space and giving you some figurative breathing room.

Conversely, you can use paint to make your space feel cozier and even more homey! Dark colors are a huge trend this year and can make your space feel more high-end. Deep greens, blues, and even blacks can add a fresh and elevated feel to your home.

If you’re not sure about committing to one color, use colors as accents and create a focal point! This could be a full wall, or even just a fun shape or pattern. The best part is, if you are unhappy with it in the end, you can just paint back over it!

Rearrange

Often when you rework a space you crave change and the first thing you want to do is get rid of everything you own (guilty!). But before you start listing all of your living room furniture on Facebook Marketplace, take a minute to assess your real needs. Do you NEED a new sofa, or are you just craving a change? If it’s change you’re looking for, try switching out the throw pillows. It could be as easy as moving the throw pillows from your bedroom to your couch. Switch out the art on the wall to a new layout, or a new location. Sometimes simply moving an item to a new home can breathe new life into yours.

A room refresh doesn’t need to be a high-budget project. Often times you’ll find that you have all the ingredients you need to cast your design spell right under your nose!
